Today we celebrate the Anti-Terrorism Day. Terrorism financing cares little about the source of the funds, but it is what the funds are to be used for that defines its scope, as opposed to money laundering, whereby cash raised from criminal activities is made to look legitimate for re-integration into the financial system.
Although the motives of terrorists may differ, their actions follow a standard pattern with terrorist incidents assuming a variety of forms: airplane hijackings, kidnappings, assassinations, threats, bombings, and suicide attacks.

Families—both traditional and non-traditional—are the foundation of society. Some of the most formative years of our lives are spent growing up with our families, so they should be celebrated! And today we do just that.
Founded by the United Nations in 1994, The International Day of Families is observed on May 15 every year to celebrate the importance of families, people, societies and cultures around the world. It’s been around since 1994, with a different family-focused theme each year (past themes have included “Building Families Based on Partnership” and “Families, education and well-being”). So celebrate with us this year, and learn about some of the social, economic and demographic processes affecting families around the world!

On the occasion of the International Day of the Nurse and the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, let’s highlight the importance of nurses in the healthcare continuum and thank nurses for what they do. The theme for this year is” Nursing the World to Health”.
Historically, as well as today, nurses are at the forefront of fighting epidemics and pandemics – providing high quality and respectful treatment and care. They are often the first and sometimes the only health professional that people see and the quality of their initial assessment, care and treatment is vital.

On this day, people pay tributes to the Red Cross volunteers for their contribution in helping those in need.

The COVID-19 pandemic is spreading to more countries, territories and regions of the world at an alarming rate and physical and social distancing practices are becoming commonplace to stop the spread of the disease.
The closure of gyms, sport facilities and stadiums, public pools, dance studios, and playgrounds mean that many of us are not able to actively participate in individual or group sporting or physical activities, nor watch live sporting events. As a result, the global sporting community is facing serious challenges due to measures imposed in countless countries around the world.

World NGO Day was officially recognised by the IX Baltic Sea NGO Forum of the Council of the Baltic Sea States on the 17th April 2010, Lithuania. It was proposed by a Member of the Baltic Sea NGO Forum’s Committee, Director of Civic Alliance-Latvia – Mrs Pipike. The member countries of the Baltic Sea NGO Forum were Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Norway and Sweden.
To mark the exceptional and highly valuable work that the NGOs are doing, YUVA warmly supports the initiative of establishing an international World NGO Day. The calendar day can also serve as an opportunity to aim towards more capable and strong NGO sector and to ensuring that there is also an enabling working environment for these organisations in every part of the world.
